Today marks 2 years since my brother, Jamie, went to be with Jesus. This would make most holidays more difficult to celebrate, but I can’t think of a better time of the year to celebrate my brother’s life. Recently someone introduced me to someone saying, “she lost her brother to cancer”. I knew what she meant, and I have felt that loss deeply. But the fact is, I haven’t really lost my brother. I am temporarily out of contact with him, but I haven’t lost him. I know right where he is……and the reason I know , is all represented this Easter week-end.

Over 2 thousand years ago, Jesus (God’s Son) came to earth in the form of a human being. He was beaten beyond recognition, suffered tremendously, crawled onto a cross willingly, and was crucified. Why did He do it? Because He loved us. God is love. The full essence of a relationship. He isn’t looking to control us, or make us follow a long list of rules. He wants to be in a meaningul, growing relationship with us. Since the fall of man at the beginning of time, sin has been in the way of that relationship, and His death and resurrection made a way for our redemption, if we choose to accept the gift. He paid the price for our sins. It’s our debt, paid in full, by Jesus. The gift is to one day live with Him in heaven, where there will be no more evil, no more tears, no more broken hearts, and no more separation by death.

So as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, remember that His resurrection, makes our resurrection possible. My brother’s spirit has already resurrected, that happened the moment 2 years ago when he took his final earthly breath and his spirit went to heaven. (“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8)

And one day, his body will be resurrected as well.

“He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like His own” Philippians 3:25

While I will miss Jamie every remaining day of my life, I am joyful that I will see him again. All because of the wonderful, powerful resurrection of Jesus. What a beautiful sacrifice He made, what a beautiful love story, that’s real, that I get to be a part of.

God gives us the freedom to choose. There are only 2 choices. Belief or unbelief. Read it for yourself today in John chapters 19 & 20. Let the love speak to you. Choose.

Today I was sitting in the carpool line at school waiting to pick up my kids, and this song kept going through my mind. I hadn’t listened to it in several years, but it used to be one of my favorites. I then remembered the last time I sang it was at a Christmas Eve service 9 years ago when my husband Jamey and I were still at New Horizon in Dayton, OH. From time to time, Jamie would come and play the piano for our worship services and this was one of those service. It was Jamie, Tim Bench and myself. Oh, how I wish I had a recording of that service. I loved his playing so much. He was so gifted. Chloe recently reminded me of a day at his house when he let her and Max choose any songs they wanted and he would play them and they would dance. I didn’t remember this and I just love when my kids or anyone share memories of Jamie.

Well, as I sat in the car line I turned on the radio and pushed play on the CD that was already in and ready to go- and it was the very CD that I used to listen to that made me love that song. My husband had found it and put in in my CD player. I couldn’t find the original version on Youtube, but I did find this one that is very similar, just different artists. When we see all that is happening in our world every time we turn on the news, it can be so discouraging. This song is such a beautiful reminder of how to live: Jesus, Be the Centre. He is the reason we have hope and joy in what is to come beyond our brief lives on earth. He is the reason we live. We don’t always have a choice in our circumstances, or what we will face in our lifetime, and we are not promised a suffering-free life, but we do have a choice in how we’ll respond. We can choose to walk with Jesus, or walk to darkness, in the absence of God, the very essence of love and relationship. It’s our choice. Not His. I choose Jesus. And I’m so glad my brother chose Jesus and that the next time we worship God together, it will be face to face with HIM.

“In His kindness, God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strenthen you and He will place you on a firm foundation. All power to Him forever! Amen.” I Peter 5:10-11

Be The Centre

On October 3rd, we celebrated Jamie’s 44th birthday. We are so thankful for the beautiful life he lead. What a blessing to know we will be together for all of eternity after this time of separation. We thank God for walking us through these most difficult 2 years. He has been so faithful and loving and is still mending our hearts. Where would we be without Jesus? Our Saviour, Comforter, Redeemer, Father, Our Friend. So much to be thankful for.

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ Who IS your life is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart” Colossians 3:1-4, 10, & 4:2

We don’t rely on ourselves, but on Christ. We cannot do it on our own. Thank the Lord we don’t have to!

Jamie’s stone is lovely. I’m sorry my reflection is in it- I don’t know how to remove it. I’ll try to take another one from a different angle. I thought those of you who aren’t able to make it there might like to see it.

Brother,

I miss you so. But I want you to know, I will be busy about my Father’s business for the rest of my breathing days, because I don’t want anyone to miss out on what you are now experiencing, and the One Who has been so gracious to me. There is so much to do in this world, and the clock is ticking! I love you so much. You still inspire me.

I am so thankful for the way God has carried our family through the past year and a half and continues to do so. What the enemy has used to try to derail me, God has redeemed and refined. I am more in love with Jesus today than ever.
